XPHash: Xphere's own blockchain mining algorithm and the first ASIC miner XP0

Most cryptocurrency projects borrow a proven solution from someone else when choosing a mining algorithm. Bitcoin uses SHA-256, Litecoin uses Scrypt, Ethereum Classic uses Ethash. Why is this important? Memory-Hard algorithms are inherently more resistant to the dominance of cheap industrial hardware. A classic example is Ethash, which was designed to keep GPU mining viable for as long as possible. XPHash follows a similar path, but is optimized specifically for its own ASIC chip — not for GPU.

The result is an algorithm that:

  • not efficiently minable on GPU or CPU after the network transition to ASIC Hardware,
  • rewards energy efficiency before gross performance,
  • serves as a validator selector, not just as protection against double-spend attacks.

The XPHERE Foundation has therefore intentionally discontinued the distribution of the official open-source mining client. Continuing to provide generic software that no longer reflects the real mining environment after the fork would mislead operators about the true economics and performance expectations.


IceRiver XP0: the first ASIC for XPHash

In May 2026, the manufacturer IceRiver launched the model XP0 — the first specialized ASIC miner in the world designed exclusively for the XPHash algorithm. This is a major milestone for the entire network: specialized hardware brings the network a higher hashrate, more stable difficulty, and security that general-purpose devices could never provide.

What's interesting about the numbers?

The number 60 W is at ASIC miners. For comparison: Antminer S21 Pro on SHA-256 consumes over 3,500 W. Even the most economical Kaspa miners (such as IceRiver KS0 Ultra) operate at around 65–100 W. XP0 is thus at the absolute lower limit of consumption in the entire category ASIC device.

The noise level of 35 dB corresponds approximately to a quiet conversation or the noise of an air conditioner — the miner can be operated without any problems in an apartment, office or bedroom. No special wiring, soundproof room or industrial cooling is required. A standard 230 V socket is sufficient.

Xphere 2.0: the context in which XP0 makes sense

To make it clear why ASIC was created right now, it is necessary to understand the current state of the project. At the end of May 2026, the XPHERE Foundation released an updated whitepaper X-Phere 2.0, which formally enshrines the two-chain architecture and defines the role of XPHash in the new consensus.
