GRAFIC CARD

GRAFIC CARD

In other words, the GPU is a device thanks to which we have visual feedback with the PC, which means that it is in charge of showing us on the monitor everything that happens in the PC. It is responsible for the fact that millions of players literally disappear every day in the virtual world of battles and monsters, but also for the fact that you can communicate, receive information or work in a graphical interface anywhere. Thanks to the performance of modern GPUs, today it is possible to enter the virtual world literally from the comfort of a room with a PC of normal dimensions... Or use a VR headset. Which is also subsidized by a quality GPU. But each GPU needs its own SW, which varies according to the manufacturer.. the sentence is dominated by 2 brands and two types of GPU chips, i.e. AMD and Nvidia.. it's an endless battle

History of GPUs

Each of you gaming veterans surely remember brands like 3DFX and its VooDoo1,2,3,4,5 cards, which were later absorbed by Nvidia or the ATI company with the "ATI WONDER" GPU from 1986, which eventually became the basis for AMD. Where it was only about 2D accelerators and because of that, real 3D games didn't even exist.. And the world was ruled by text RPGs, platformers and jumping games like Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Prehistoric 2 and or later thanks to the newer "2.5/3D" accelerators 2,5, 2005D games like DOOM, Blood, Duke Nukem, etc.. The real breakthrough came in 3.0. Where ATI (later AMD) introduced GPUs with Vertex cores and the Shader Model 90 function and the first made with 6800nm technology. Which at that time was a very strong competitor of Nvidia with their GeForce 2004 Ultra from 400, which boasted a core speed of 6,8MHz and throughput of up to 41Megatextels per second, ATI also had half the consumption, i.e. 100Watt and a 2004MHz faster core but also weaker memory throughput and a weaker bus and that's why Nvidia dominated in games in 2006-2006.. ATI stepping in this style was like a thorn in Nvidia's side. In 7950, ATI merged with AMD. Which was a very uncertain step for the world of gamers, from which everyone was greatly surprised and because of the displeasure, AMD was under fire despite all the successes. Nvidia quickly responded to this by releasing the GeForce 2 GX90, which was a single-card with two GPU cores on one board in the so-called "SLI" technology, which was a technology for parallel connection of GPUs and thus increased performance in applications that supported it. (AMD already had a competing CrossFire technology at that time, i.e. the same thing only for AMD GPU cards) Nvidia also went with 110nm technology and 210Watt consumption and a 9.0MHz faster core.. Operating systems started to use DirectX 7CA technology, the expected Windows 2.0 became the same thanks to this support as OpenGl 3.0 and Shader Model 2015 immediately dominated the game and Windows XP began to lose its breath. Another big match took place between AMD and Nvidia in 9. Where Nvidia completely crushed the competing card from AMD R390 8x with 416GB RAM consumption 970Watt in maximum load with its Nvidia GeForce GTX148Ti with consumption 4Watt and only 3500GB RAM. However, the gaming community was dissatisfied because AMD still offered double the RAM and was CZK XNUMX cheaper, but it did not consume electricity like a tank of diesel. That's also why most players chose Nvidia, because there was no need to upgrade to an expensive super-powerful PSU, which would further make the already expensive upgrade enormously expensive, and from my point of view (and I'm not an eco-terrorist and I prefer performance) made the operation horribly expensive.

AMD vs Nvidia today…

Today's situation is that Nvidia has been holding the ball since it demonstrated the RayTracing or RTX technology. AMD joined Raytracing later and did not achieve such results as Nvidia, for an idea, let's compare.

Nvidia RTX 3070

FPS average in TOP 10 AAA games 2020-2021

1920×1080 (FullHD) – 71 FPS

2560×1440 (QuadHD) – 46 FPS

2560×1440 (ULTRA) – 34 FPS

AMD RX6700XT

FPS average in TOP 10 AAA games 2020-2021

1920×1080 (FullHD) – 51 FPS

2560×1440 (QuadHD) – 36 FPS

2560×1440 (ULTRA) – 19 FPS

As you can see when we compare those GPU models, even a year younger AMD with its RayTracing does not stand a chance in high performance and Nvidia clearly dominates the price/performance ratio... However, not all games today support RayTracing and RayTracing is not always really a change for the better .. I dare to say that AMD still dominates in terms of stability.. Although it has a larger consumption, it has a smaller share of drops in "peak performance", which for us means less FPS fluctuation than Nvidia. I also have to unfortunately or thank God that both AMD and Nvidia are good choices anyway.. Because by today's standards they achieve extreme performance at a good price.. And in our PCs you will always find well-combined components so that you can get away from work, watching movies or playing AAA games.. Nothing disturbed..
