One of them was in the lead in all matches
The RandomGaminginHD YouTube channel tested what gaming performance the newer i3-12100F processor can provide compared to the old i7-2600.
Experts from YouTube channel RandomGaminginHD have run builds based on i3-12100F and i7-2600 with RTX 2080 Super graphics card in several gaming projects. Games include Bioshock Infinite, CS:GO, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite. All projects were tested at 1080p resolution.
In Bioshock Infinite on ultra, the average frame rate was 266 fps on the i3-12100F and 124 fps on the i7-2600. On very rare occasions, performance dropped to 78 fps and 43 fps.
CS:GO was launched with the lowest settings and FXAA. The average FPS here was 327 fps for the i3-12100F and 176 fps for the i7-2600. In extremely rare cases, the values were in the range of 101 frames per second and 36 frames per second.
Cyberpunk 2077 came with the All High preset. On average, the frame rate was 91 fps (i3-12100F) and 52 fps (i7-2600). Reduced performance in very rare events to 48 fps and 20 fps.
We averaged 60 fps (i3-12100F) and 38 fps (i7-2600) in Elden Ring with high presets. In extremely rare events, a noticeable drop in frame rate to 40 and 19 frames per second.
Forza Horizon 5 ran on ultra settings. In it, we managed to reach an average of 3 fps with the i12100-119F, 7 fps with the i2600-75. In very rare cases, this value dropped to 89 fps in the first case and 36 fps in the second.
The Halo Infinite project came with a high preset. On average, the performance in it was 101 fps and 74 fps (i3-12100F and i7-2600). In very rare cases, this number dropped to 60 frames per second and 30 frames per second.

In general, it can be seen that the i7-2600 can still provide quite decent performance in some modern games: for example, in Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. However, in terms of average frame rate, this old model is worse than the modern i3-12100F by almost 81 percent (89 fps versus 161 fps).
