The cryptocurrency fever has long since ended, but the consequences of the mining boom still remind of themselves. Millions of Radeon RX 580 graphics cards, calculating worthless hashes for days, suddenly became unnecessary. Chinese warehouses are still filled with non-marketable goods, and local traders have to sell their goods to foreign customers, hoping that someone will believe in the fairy tales about a completely “new” graphics card, sold for just a few pennies.
The condition of these specimens leaves nothing to be desired. Many of them have been subjected to rough cleaning using high-pressure washers, which leads to accelerated corrosion of elements and a reduction in the heat-conducting properties of thermal pads.
However, even after going through tough tests, such a graphics card can work reliably for many years. For example, a technology blogger (YouTube channel TEHNOGLOBE TV) personally tested the theory in practice and found that even the “moss-covered” Chinese Radeon RX 580 allows you to run any games without any problems. In Cyberpunk 2077, the “not new” showed a comfortable 40 FPS, which will be enough for 99 percent of gamers, if we get rid of the “bourgeois” claims.
So if we throw away the preconceptions about graphics cards after mining, we can save a lot and not pay twice as much for almost the same thing. As they say, the economy must be economical, and thoughtless waste in these difficult times is simply unforgivable and raises concerns about whether the citizen can make the right decision.
