This article is not so much written to help you compose your own computer at home, but rather not to fly to a retailer who doesn't offer optimal gaming computers.

Why do our PC kits often differ from other gaming computer vendors? Jako počítačový hráči víme, že nejdůležitější komponent v herním počítači by měla být grafická karta. Z tohoto důvodu navrhujeme sestavy s maximálně výkonnou grafickou kartou v dané cenové relaci a ostatní komponenty sestavujeme tak, aby nedegradovaly její výkon při celkové ceně počítače. Velké procento prodejců nejspíše nemá představu o přesnějším výkonu grafických karet nebo co hůře, snaží se vědomě prodat “herní” počítač s menším herním výkonem, než si zákazník většinou dle nabídky představuje.

What is their reason? A powerful graphics card is a very expensive component compared to other components, which in addition to its increasing performance requires a more powerful and more expensive source. An ordinary customer usually does not read the real performance of the graphics card name and therefore it is commercially advantageous to offer cheaper multi-core and high-frequency processors or powerful Intel I5 and I7 processors, along with many GB of RAM and large hard disk space. The customer lay down in thinking - a higher number is simply better.

Processor performance is not as different from one model to another, and is as practical as the performance of different graphics cards.

Recently, candidates run into subtly tuned kits and should follow these tips:

1. focus primarily on the performance of the graphics card and the specific model from a particular manufacturer, which may vary in performance and operating characteristics (noise).
2. If you have a more limited budget, it's always better to invest in components that need to be changed than those that just need to be added. You can buy an SSD, a larger HDD, more RAM, or even a worse processor cooler at a later time, and you don't have to invest in them at the expense of a more powerful graphics card, processor, or more advanced motherboard.

3. When comparing the prices of PC sets, it is necessary to compare the same or qualitatively comparable components

How to select / design / build a gaming computer (s)

Computer price:

Price levels of honest assemblies can be easily characterized as follows:

set up to about 10,000 CZK - cannot be considered as a gaming computer.

set up to 14.000 CZK - you will play all the games, but you cannot expect high and often even medium settings for demanding games.

set cca 15.000 CZK - you play everything at least on medium and sometimes high settings.

set cca 20.000 CZK - playing most games in high sometimes even maximum settings.

set cca 25.000 CZK - playing games always in high often even maximum settings.

set cca 30.000 CZK - to play all the most challenging games in maximum settings.

from approx. 40.000 CZK - for playing all the most demanding games in maximum settings and high resolutions with a future perspective.


More cores - always more power? …… ..NE not quite !!!!! This is especially true for Intel's 6 to 8 core AMD vs 4-core processors, which are mostly more powerful despite a smaller number of cores.
They have multiple threads per kernel, providing better performance where there are no 4 or more kernel software support. Intel processors are more powerful on average (especially on I5 and I7), but not always clearly more cost-effective. Considering the price, the AMD processor is also sufficient for cheaper gaming segments, for example, the 4-core AMD RYZEN 3 1200, which is cheaper than the 2-core Intel I3, could be recommended for the cheaper segment. In modern games and in the future, its 2 cores (though multithreaded) may be limiting. For more expensive processors, we recommend the Intel I5 processors, and if you want maximum I7. A good option is a little cheaper AMD RYZEN 5 processors with 4 and 6 cores and the same number of threads. Our favorite in mid-range kits is AMDRYZEN 5 1600. In practice, the difference between AMD and Intel is that game programs that allow you to use multiple cores and processor threads, so there is a good AMD and on the other hand if the cores are not utilized is a more powerful Intel processor. In general, Intel's have better performance per processor core.

Advantages of Intel processors - more balanced performance and performance per core, higher clock limits.

Benefits of AMD processors - cheaper and using all cores will be more powerful (which is not the rule) than competitors from Intel, the ability to clock all models, mostly cheaper motherboards with the same equipment.

Motherboard: The motherboard does not need to choose the most expensive models, but if you get tempted to the cheapest, you have to count with some limitations. You can only support lower speeds for components, the board will have fewer RAM slots, disks, and additional components.
Also, you may not be able to digitally connect the 5.1 speaker or you will have a lack of USB ports. Support for SATA3 and USB 3.0, fast M.2 SSDs or new processors is also useful in the future. Smaller differences are also in the individual versions of chipset and board classes (improved clocking options), but in addition to the most powerful assemblies or planning higher clocking, you will need a middle class board. We can divide it as a guide so that the board should be for about 10% (+ - hundreds) of the total amount for the whole assembly.No need to have a board equipped for everything, but with increasing price of other components, the computer should be fitted with a corresponding motherboard. The basic equipment of today's boards also includes an integrated network and sound card. GIGABYTE, ASUS, MSI boards are recommended.

In today's games it is not necessary to have 16GB of RAM in sets up to approx. When playing the most modern games sufficient 8Gb. Therefore, it is good to compare the performance of other components. The basic 2133Mhz is enough. Faster 2400Mhz memory is recommended for a small extra charge (simply effective mainly with Intel processors thanks to the so-called XMP profiles), but you practically do not know the difference and also verify the support of faster memory at the motherboard. Where there is a high frequency to know is the case in combination with AMD RYZEN processors (especially the more powerful ones), where we recommend memory of 2666Mzh and faster. . The last value you might have in mind is memory latency (eg CL13, CL15). This is also relatively important and the smaller number is more efficient, ie. For example, CL13 is better than CL15 or CL16.     

Grafic card: Herní počítač NEZNAMENÁ, že je v sestavě jakákoliv přídavná grafická karta. Největší problém některých nabídek je takřka lživý údaj o vhodnosti nabízené sestavy, jako “herní”. Grafická karta je základ herní sestavy a měla by být většinou nejdražší komponent v PC. Proto v drtivé většině nabídek je počítač osazen slabší/levnější grafickou kartou a prodejci spoléhají na neznalost zákazníků. Jak tedy poznat, jestli je nabízená grafická karta vhodná dle představ? Nvidia graphics cards are better than ATI cards / AMD today? …… IT IS NOT TRUE !!! This myth is a remnant of a relatively long time ago when ATi graphics cards suffered from incomplete drivers. At the moment, of course, sometimes there are also temporary backlogs in the drivers, but now both manufacturers have nothing to blame and occasional problems occur on both sides. In some price ranges, AMD / ATi Radeon is more advantageous, in other cases both graphics cards are comparable and it is more of a brand liking. Rather, there may be differences in different versions of the same cards from different manufacturers (Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, etc.), which differ mainly in the installed cooler and equipment.

Nowadays, graphics like the Nvidia GTX 1050 and 1060 have very low power consumption, less heat and sometimes noise, but AMD's competition (RX 570 and 580) at similar prices has slightly worse performance, but often at the highest resolutions thus, performance in the most demanding scenes does not deteriorate and can have greater prospects for future challenging games.
It is up to everyone whether they prefer operating characteristics or theoretical performance perspectives.

How much RAM is required on the graphics card?… .. presently the minimum is 2GB, optimum 3-4GB, for the future and the most demanding games 6-8GB.

Sound card: For most users, an integrated sound card on the motherboard is enough to sound the computer. You only need to think about whether you will only connect a stereo or 2.1 speaker or if you have or plan 5.1 speakers (7.1). On some motherboards, you will only find 3 audio outputs that you do not connect to a 5.1 speaker.

There are also some differences in the integrated audio, and the higher versions of chipsets usually have better integrated audio. But it is not worth paying for a better record just because of the audio.

If you have a quality speaker to listen to music, we recommend that you pay for an additional sound card at a price of about $ 50 or more. In the case of inexpensive earphones the difference from the integrated ones is very small.

Hard disk: Hard disk capacity can be chosen according to your needs, but 1000Gb of space is usually enough to store data and if you need more space, 2TB drives can be purchased for a decent price, but we would rather buy another separate hard or external 1TB drive. It's good not to be dependent on only one HDD, imagine losing 2 TB of data in case of failure. Although we can talk about smaller disks, it is also about the number and types of files. If you want a large disk to store many large files (such as Blue Ray movies), you can purchase a 2TB HDD, but we do not recommend purchasing a large disk to store small files slowly over a number of years. We would definitely recommend 7200 rpm models for the system disk. 5400 rpm models can be used as storage discs for PC or NAS systems. Their advantage is lower consumption and theoretically longer service life under long-term load.  
A separate chapter are SSDs, which, although not worth the ratio of capacity / price, but the agility of the system (especially at startup) you will recognize at first glance. We recommend that you combine an SSD with an operating system and a conventional HDD to store data.

There is also a hybrid between SSD and classic HDD. With this type of SSHD, which is actually a classic HDD, where is also set up a smaller quick access swap, which will store the most frequently run files and thus speed up their start-up. This solution is not as powerful and fast as a classic SSD, but unlike a classic HDD is known.

Whether to speed up to a conventional HDD on an SSD, where its full capacity or only a small amount of exchange is fast instead of HDD hybrid SSHD with less space for most used files + classic HDD capacity, it depends on expectations, needs and financial possibilities each user.

For some time we can also choose SSD variants directly to the M.2 slots on the motherboard, where this connection has a higher theoretical transfer rate. A little problem is in their higher price and the cheaper is not significantly higher performance than conventional SATA SSD. On the other hand, with the M.2 SSD you save the power and data cable connection, it is only a card inserted in the motherboard, but it must, of course, have an M.2 slot. 

Computer case: Computer cabinets differ only in appearance?… .OMYL. Very underestimated is the choice of computer case, which can end in an unpleasant surprise. In the picture, the seemingly expensive looking cabinet may actually be a super cheap and shiny box with thin, resonating sheet metal and minimal cooling that won't even fit a more powerful graphics card later. Therefore, we advise the customer not only to choose by appearance, but also to take into account other important characteristics of the PC case. Choose cabinets roughly so that it costs 5% and more from the price of the whole set.

Source: The more watts, the better? …… Not quite. For PC power supplies, we recommend focusing on the gross power requirement and then mainly the brand and experience with it. High power in watts at a low price may not be a bargain. An ideal example is the APPROX power supply with a gorgeous 500-550W, which is at half price, what better quality with 400W power, and so an extremely low price has to be reflected in quality. In our offers from about 10000, - we use proven sources SEASONIC, FORTRON and Corsair, with whom we have many years of experience and have an above-standard warranty of 36 or even 60 months. For power supplies we recommend that it is not a good idea to buy the cheapest high-wattage models, but it is not necessary to buy a power supply that is more expensive than a well-selected motherboard. Especially for the most powerful assemblies, you can choose powerful models with high efficiency around 90% (maximized energy efficiency and minimizing residual heat) and removable cables for better arrangement inside the cabinet. However, video card manufacturers typically report higher wattage than would be possible with higher quality sources, due to customers buying the cheapest sources. 

Cooling: Vzhledem k tomu, že špatně chlazená sestava může mít značně zkrácenou životnost, doporučujeme se zaměřit i na tuto velmi podceňovanou záležitost. V první řadě musíme upozornit na chlazení procesoru. V základní konfiguraci nabízíme chladič, který je součástí balení s procesorem. Ten sice stačí na základní chlazení, ale nevyniká v tichostí ani chladícím výkonem. Pokud nevybíráte z počítačů cca pod 10.000,- a nebo nemáte již doma chladič ze staršího PC, doporučujeme připlatit za výkonnější a tišší model ( např. SilentiumPC Fera 3 ). Lepší chladič doporučujeme hlavně u procesorů AMD ( u 8 jádrových určitě ), které mají základní chladiče o něco hlučnější a mají vyšší zahřívání. U Intelu je vhodné připlatit u modelů s otevřeným násobičem na taktování ( označení “K” ) nebo pro minimalizování hluku. V souvislosti s výběrem skříně by se měl uvnitř vytvořit „průvan” zepředu dozadu. To umožní ventilátory, které na jedné straně nasávají studený vzduch a na druhé straně vyfukují zahřátý vzduch ven ze skříně. U tohoto se musíte zaměřit na skříně umožňující pořádné přední nasávání, které zároveň ochlazuje HDD. Přídavné ( většinou 12cm) ventilátory si můžete u nás dokoupit za 120,-/ks nebo i později dle vlastních zkušeností a požadavků. Pokud Vám jde o hlučnost sestavy, můžete vybírat z odhlučněných skříní ( např. Fractal design Define R5). Mějte však na paměti, že maximální chlazení nejde dohromady s minimální hlučností. Musíte se zaměřit na tu nebo tu stránku věci, ale ideální je kompromis vyladěný mírně na stranu chlazení nebo tichosti a to dle požadavků každého zákazníka a podmínek, ve kterých počítač provozuje.

Monitor and accessories:

Při dnešních cenách monitorů již můžeme většinou přemýšlet o velikostech 22″, 23″, 24″ a 27″. Cenově jsou 22″ a 24″ monitory vzdáleny zhruba 1000,- Kč, což není mnoho a větší obrazovku každý uživatel jistě ocení. Nejrozšířenější rozlišení je 1920 x 1080 px ( fullHD ), což je dnešní standard a to u všech uvedených úhlopříček. U velikosti monitoru by se to dalo přirovnat podobně jako u ostatního příslušenství ( klávesnice, myš, repro,…), pokud nepoznáte to lepší, bude Vám stačit i to horší. Kvalita dnešních monitorů v ” lidových” cenách cca do 6000,- se neliší až o tolik, co by cenový rozdíl někdy napovídal a tak se můžete klidně pro domácí použití soustředit i v nižších cenových relacích a budete nejspíše spokojeni. O trochu lepší vlastnosti kvality obrazu mají panely IPS a PLS. Klasické starší TN panely mají zase mnohdy lepší odezvu. Pokud hrajete rychlé on-line skřílečky, mohou být ku prospěchu i modely s obnovovací frekvencí 120 nebo 144Hz ( ostatní mají 60Hz nebo 75Hz ), ale takové monitory těžko seženete do 6000,-.  Výrobci grafických karet AMD a Nvidia mají také vyvinuté technolofie, které výrobci monitoru začleňují do svých modelů a v kompatibilitě s příslušnou grafickou kartou to přespěje k větší plynulosti zobrazování. U AMD se technologie nazývá FreeSync, u Nvidie GSYNC. Pro FreeSync jsou k dostání monitory již od cca 3500,-, na trhu je jich o dost více a nejlevnější GSYNC monitor také neseženete pod 10000,-.  U monitorů si můžete všímat různé výbavy a možnosti připojení. Doporučili bychom už vybrat model alespoň s digitálním připojením DVI a u novějších monitoru HDMI nebo DisplayPort. Konektor HDMI se Vám může hodit pro připojení dalších zařízení ( herní konzole, Set-top-box, atd ). V současné době se stává dostupnější možnost k počítači připojit 3 monitory a hrát nebo pracovat v rozlišení  5760 x 1080px. Takto velká zobrazovací plocha pochopitelně potřebuje na hraní dosti výkonnou grafickou kartu, jako je alespoň Radeon RX580 8GB nebo Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB nebo lépe Nvidia GTX 1070 a 1080. 3 monitory můžete zapojit i do levnějších grafických karet, ale u náročnějších her budete muset velmi snižovat kvalitu obrazu. Další specialitou jsou široké a prohnuté monitory v rozlišení 3440×1440, případně levnější 2560×1080, takže taková trochu užší, ale bezrámečková varianta spojení třech monitorů.

Accessories such as a keyboard and mouse can be selected with a large number of models according to your own needs and pricing options. Even for less demanding, however, we recommend (especially in mice) to choose from models from at least 400, - CZK. Again, although I do not know better, just worse, but a few hundred crowns can separate you from much better features that you will appreciate.
