Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is a graphically updated version of Metro: Exodus and its DLS Sam's Story. Developed by Ukrainian company 4A Games. The updated edition is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2021. The main goal of the game update is to adapt to the next generation consoles, i.e. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.

Along with console gamers, PC gamers will also benefit from the new thing. The game will feature DLSS 2.0 and fully redesigned and optimized ray tracing. Yes, ray tracing was already there, but that didn't stop the developers from making it even better. We promise 60 frames per 4K if you have a high-end RTX 3090 graphics card.

The all-new version of Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition can only be enjoyed by owners of very powerful computers, namely those with an RTX 20 or 30 series graphics card. The good news is that you do not need to buy a new version of the game if you already have the original - the update will be available to owners available for free as an alternative version of the game. We remind you that it makes sense to download it only if you have an RTX series graphics card.

History

If you are not familiar with this game, I should tell you that a whole series of games were created based on the book "Metro 2035" by Dmitry Glukhovsky. In the story, Moscow (as well as almost the entire planet) has been covered by a nuclear explosion, and the few survivors are forced to hide and survive in the intricate subway tunnels. The last part of the series tells how a group of soldiers manages to break through the barriers and leave the capital of Russia covered in nuclear winter.

The action of the game will take place in the vastness of the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan in the years 2035-2036. The remnants of the population ran wild, huddled in tribes, organized according to the principle of primitive people. The wastelands are populated by many mutants who also fight for their lives in every available way, attacking either their own kind or humans unlucky enough to stand in their way.

Gameplay

This game is a shooting game with RPG elements. All these elements make up the ability to modify weapons and some types of equipment. The course of the story campaign is divided into locations, some of them are more corridor-based, others are open. But there is no freedom of movement between them. This means that the player only gets the opportunity to explore the place he is now, he has one way out and at least some variability.

However, you can use a different approach to navigate the same places. While exploring the terrain, the weather and time of day will change more than once, the game has a system for dynamically changing these parameters for complete immersion in the process. The big project was not complete without excellent direction, which the player encounters throughout.

One of the largest desert locations available for exploration turns into a small game in the game with the opportunity to explore everything on an old "loaf" UAZ-452 / 452V, which miraculously managed to survive after the explosion.

Graphics and engine

The game is built on the 4A Engine, which does not involve licensing and is proprietary, meaning it can only be used internally. This was used to develop the entire Metro series and the first-person shooter Arktika.1 for the Oculus Rift with the Oculus Touch controller. This game is very challenging and incredibly hard, especially the Enhanced Edition. Despite the fact that the graphics have improved significantly, the optimization of the game has become more complicated, and now it works better on PC, the FPS is more stable.

System requirements

The requirements for Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition are written by the developers themselves for all variants and combinations of screen resolution and graphics settings. This is very convenient, considering that there are no demos yet, and therefore no equipment tests yet. The developers focused not only on supporting new technologies, but also on optimizing the game so that the FPS is more stable on powerful systems at all resolutions.
