Mining farm cooling - a necessary process to prevent excessive heating of the equipment in use. The reason is the increased consumption of electricity and the high performance of the device, which leads to excessive heat generation. If there are accompanying factors that negatively affect the capabilities of standard cooling systems, additional equipment cannot be dispensed with. Ignoring this rule will result in reduced performance ASICand graphics cards and their failure.
Cooling properties depending on the season
The temperature of the supply air should not exceed the range of 0-40 degrees Celsius - this is enough for the normal operation of computer technology. Maintaining the set values can only be achieved with additional cooling devices during summer and winter. In summer, the problem is caused by natural climatic conditions – the weather is hot and in some places dry, which significantly increases the air temperature inside the premises. You can't do without ventilation or air conditioning, because there are no more efficient ways to replace the warm meats coming from the farm. In winter, the climatic conditions can change to the opposite, in this case, the decision is made based on the type of room:
- Apartment or other space with standard heating. The air overheats because the radiators and the farm work at the same time. It is important to create conditions for drafts and supplement them with the effect of fans.
- Non-residential space without standard heating. In this case, the temperature is reduced to a minimum level. It is necessary to monitor the ability of the equipment to heat the air in the room independently, otherwise the farm will freeze. There are several methods of farm cooling, the most popular being air and immersion.
Immersion cooling - Mineral Oil
Immersion cooling - this is the latest way to maintain the optimal temperature in the mining farm. It is based on the use of a special liquid that does not cause corrosion and does not affect the life of electronic components. The process consists of immersing the plates with ASIC chips into the coolant tank. Here, the heat is removed directly from the hot components and the liquid is able to effectively remove the heat from the room. Immersion cooling ensures a stable temperature, reduces noise level and energy consumption by 10-15%. In addition, this method of cooling allows to increase the performance of the mining farm, because the temperature on the components can be reduced, which reduces the risk of overheating and outages.
Air
Air cooling for cryptocurrency mining requires the installation of additional equipment that regulates the air temperature in the room. This can be done with the following devices:
- Ventilator. A properly installed fan will allow the temperature of the device to be reduced by 5-6 degrees. Incorrect routing of air currents to the fan is not permissible, as this leads to a failure of the standard cooling system.
- Air conditioning. The most radical and expensive option, because the device will have to work at full power all the time. Only the most powerful devices can cope with such a task.
- Exhaust fan. It removes heat from the room and replaces it with outside air. It is usually more convenient to create a draft because the meaning remains the same. The irrationality and disadvantage of using these cooling devices are the main reasons for creating immersion systems.
