Kaspa reaches 10 BPS on test network and sets a new standard in cryptocurrency

Kaspa reaches 10 BPS on test network, sets new standard in cryptocurrency Kaspa, the pioneering proof-of-work platform, announces a historic milestone: reaching an unprecedented 10 blocks per second (BPS) on its test network. This breakthrough sets a new standard in cryptography and cryptocurrencies, and is poised to overturn existing limitations on transaction and block rates within consensus proof-of-work protocols.

Kaspa, the evidence-based labor network known for its pioneering efforts, today announced a major event. The company achieved a remarkable milestone on its test network by successfully achieving a speed of 10 blocks per second (BPS). This achievement sets a new benchmark in cryptocurrency.

To achieve this unprecedented block speed, Kaspa launched Testnet 11, a public experimental network. This success is very significant as it opens up exciting opportunities for future innovation. Developers, cryptocurrency enthusiasts and visionaries from around the world are now invited to try out different approaches and ideas.

Yonatan Sompolinsky, founder of Kaspa and co-author of the GHOSTDAG protocol, expressed his enthusiasm by saying: “A 10-blocks-per-second system is highly susceptible to minor errors or even suboptimal engineering; it requires a deep understanding of the interplay between p2p consensus modules and superior execution capabilities. I hope more developers will join the project, if for no other reason than to enjoy the beauty the system offers.”

The successful Testnet 11 demonstrated the ability to process thousands of transactions per second across multiple network nodes, all using common hardware. This success shows that the proof-of-work protocol can scale without compromising decentralization or security. This achievement promises significant progress for those seeking to explore and expand the possibilities of cryptocurrencies.

Michael Sutton, distributed systems researcher and lead developer at Kaspa, shared his thoughts on this success. He said, “With the advent of GHOSTDAG as a scalable consensus protocol, we have reached a fundamental point where performance becomes more important. Cryptocurrency scalability is no longer limited by the protocol itself; it now depends on computational limits. The combination of widely available multi-core computing and the inherent opportunities for parallelism in DAG has taken us to the limits. This combination of consensus and high-performance computing (HPC) unlocks untapped potential and leads us to new horizons of research and innovation.”

Shai Deshe, Kaspa researcher in the field of quantum cryptography and co-author of GHOSTDAG, added: “This is the first time a public, permissionless, proof-of-work network has achieved four-digit transaction rates directly at the consensus layer while running on available hardware. Remarkably, some participants reported running the network on nine-year-old laptops! We are well on our way to showing that proof-of-work can be as effective as proof-of-stake without sacrificing centralization or security. Surpassing 3000 TPS was surprisingly easy, and as we continue to push the boundaries, we may even surpass VISA.”

Kaspa’s success represents a significant step forward in realizing Satoshi Nakamoto’s vision of an efficient, secure and widely accepted cryptocurrency. Using blockDAG technology to handle high transaction volumes not only pushes the boundaries of current capabilities, but also opens the way for future innovation. This transformational moment ushers in a new era in digital currencies, offering wider adoption and unprecedented application possibilities.

Kaspa is the fastest and most scalable Layer-1 instant transaction confirmation layer built on proof of work. Using the GHOSTDAG (Greedy Heaviest Observed SubTree Directed Acyclic Graph) protocol, a scalable generic form of Nakamoto consensus, Kaspa circumvents the traditional trade-off between security, scalability and decentralization, enabling high block rates without giving up the level of security offered by the most secure proof-of-work environments.
