Miner hosting in Paraguay – mining on hydropower

Paraguay shares the Itaipu hydropower plant on the Paraná river with Brazil, one of the largest hydropower plants in the world. Half of its capacity belongs to Paraguay, which covers most of domestic demand. More electricity comes from the Yacyretá dam, shared with Argentina, and the smaller Acaray plant.

A country of seven million people cannot use all the electricity it generates, so it exports the surplus. It is this surplus of clean energy that has drawn mining data centres to Paraguay.

Paraguay has a subtropical climate with hot summers, when temperatures often exceed 35 °C. Air-cooled miners work closer to their operating temperature here in summer, while machines with water (Hydro) cooling hold more stable performance in the heat.

The price per kWh is higher here than at our cheapest locations, so efficient machines with low consumption per terahash pay off. Below are the four miners with the fastest payback at the local electricity price.

You pay for the electricity the miner uses. The price per kWh already includes management of the machine, excludes VAT and is the same for companies and private customers. New miners bought from us carry a 7-year warranty for as long as they run on our hosting. The miner mines on our pool and you send payouts to your own wallet.

One-off costs are installation – a one-time installation fee depending on the machine type – and shipping to the data centre. Customs and fees vary by location; you will see the exact amount in the hosting order before you pay.

Until space frees up in Paraguay, you can place your miner elsewhere – for example in Norway, where electricity also comes from hydropower, or in Finland.
