Radiators and dry coolers

Radiators and dry coolers remove heat from the water loop of hydro miners – out of the building, or via a heat exchanger into your heating and hot water. Choose by output in kW, which must cover the power draw of all miners on the loop.

We offer the OCOCOO BC5 external cooler for smaller loops and a 12 kW water-cooling kit with a noise level of around 38 dB for home mining. We design larger loops for farms to order.

How to choose a radiator for a hydro miner

The radiator (dry cooler) is the last link in the water loop: it takes heat out of the water and releases it into the air.

  1. Capacity in kW based on the miners' power draw

Add up the power draw of all miners on the loop and add a margin of roughly 20%. You will find the power draw in each miner's specifications – hydro machines usually draw 5–8 kW.

  2. Ambient and water temperature

Manufacturers state cooler capacity under specific conditions. In summer it is warmer outside and the cooler can dissipate less, so allow for a margin. You will find the inlet water temperature range for a specific miner in its manual.

  3. What to do with the heat

You can release the heat outside or use it via a heat exchanger for space heating and hot water. The radiator is then used mainly in summer, when you do not need the heat at home.

  4. Noise and placement

The noise comes from the radiator fans. Quieter kits suit a house – according to the manufacturer the 12 kW kit runs at 38 dB. Large dry coolers belong outside or on the roof.

Which miners it is for

Radiators are for water-cooled (hydro) miners. Power draw is as stated by the manufacturers – choose the cooler capacity accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

How big a radiator do I need?

The cooler capacity in kW must cover the power draw of all miners on the loop, ideally with a margin. A hydro miner such as the Antminer S21+ Hyd draws 5,925 W according to the manufacturer, so the BC5 cooler (4–5 kW according to the manufacturer) is not enough for it. Send us the models and number of machines and we will calculate the cooler capacity.

Can I heat with the heat from a miner?

Yes. A miner turns practically all its electricity into heat, and you can use the heated water from the loop via a heat exchanger for space heating or hot water. The radiator then only removes excess heat, for example in summer when you do not need heating.

How noisy is the cooler?

The noise comes mainly from the radiator fans. According to the manufacturer, the 12 kW water cooling kit runs at 38 dB and is also intended for home use. The BC5 cooler has a fan with speed control (PWM).

Can you help with design and installation?

Yes. We design the loop based on the number of miners and their power draw, and we install water cooling on the miner in our service centre in Prague 10 from 2 490 Kč. Write to us which machines you want to cool and where the heat should go.

What power supply do the cooler and miners need?

The BC5 cooler runs on 220 V mains. The hydro miners themselves, however, usually need three-phase 380–415 V – take this into account when planning the electrical installation.

Radiators and dry coolers for hydro miners

Hydro ASIC miners cool their chips with water instead of air. The heat the water carries away from the miner has to go somewhere – and that is the job of the radiator, or dry cooler. Its fans blow air through it and cool the water before it returns to the miner. A well-chosen cooler keeps the water temperature stable even in summer, so the miner does not have to throttle because of overheating.

We offer the OCOCOO BC5 cooler for smaller loops and a 12 kW water cooling kit for home mining that you can connect to your heating. For farms we design larger dry coolers and complete loops based on the number of machines. You will find more parts in the category Water loops and we can install your water cooling in our service centre in Prague 10. Not sure what capacity to choose? Send us your miner models and we will calculate it for you.
