PC for World of Tanks: requirements and builds

Počítač pro World Of Tanks

A budget gaming PC is enough for World of Tanks today: for Full HD at high detail, a six-core processor, 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 5050 or Radeon RX 9060 XT class graphics card will do. For 1440p and a 144 Hz monitor, go for a stronger card (RX 9070, RTX 5070) and above all a fast processor – in a full fifteen-versus-fifteen battle the game puts a heavy load on the CPU. Plan for 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and roughly 120 GB of free SSD space.

Summary

  • Since update 2.3.1, Wargaming only supports 64-bit Windows 10/11. Older systems may run the game, but the developer no longer guarantees stability.
  • The recommended configuration is modest: Core i3-9100F or Ryzen 3 3100, 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1650 or RX 580.
  • For smooth play with headroom for Discord, a browser and recording, a modern six-core CPU and 16–32 GB of RAM are worth it.
  • Install the game on an SSD – on an HDD battles load much more slowly and you may join the battle late.

What are the official World of Tanks requirements

Wargaming lists the requirements on its support site, and the same values are on Steam (as of 10/2026). The developer points out that they change with updates.

Parameter Minimum Recommended
System Windows 10/11, 64-bit Windows 10/11, 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-3330 / AMD FX-6300 Intel Core i3-9100F / AMD Ryzen 3 3100
RAM 8 GB 16 GB or more
Graphics card GeForce GTX 660 / Radeon R9 270 GeForce GTX 1650 / Radeon RX 580
Disk space approx. 70 GB approx. 120 GB
Internet 256 kb/s 1 Mb/s or more (for voice chat)

Bear in mind that requirements are measured on a clean system. At home, a browser, Discord, antivirus and drivers with a gaming overlay usually run alongside the game. Each of them takes a share of memory and processor power, so it makes sense to buy with headroom above the recommended configuration.

Which PC for World of Tanks: three builds for 2026

We put the builds together from components that are widely available as of 10/2026. We deliberately don't give prices – because of the memory shortage, they change almost weekly in 2026.

Build Graphics card Processor RAM SSD What to expect
Budget 1080p GeForce RTX 5050 or Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB Ryzen 5 5600 (DDR4) or Ryzen 5 7600X 16 GB (2 × 8 GB) 1 TB NVMe Full HD at high detail with headroom above the recommended requirements
Optimal 1440p Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB or GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB Core Ultra 5 250K Plus or Ryzen 5 7600X3D 32 GB DDR5 (2 × 16 GB) 1 TB NVMe 1440p with HD textures for a 144 Hz monitor
High-end Radeon RX 9070 or GeForce RTX 5070 Ryzen 7 9800X3D 32 GB DDR5-6000 2 TB NVMe 1440p maxed out, high frame rates even while streaming

World of Tanks is one of those games where an expensive graphics card makes less difference than a fast processor. If you have to choose, put your money into the CPU and a second RAM module rather than a higher class of graphics card. You will find a more detailed comparison of cards in our list of graphics cards.

What matters most in World of Tanks

Processor

The processor has always been the weak point in tanks. In large battles it calculates the physics, ballistics and movement of dozens of vehicles, and that is exactly when FPS drops the most. A modern six-core CPU (Ryzen 5 7600X, Core Ultra 5 250K Plus) handles it with ease. If you stream or record while playing, it makes sense to go one class higher.

Graphics card and monitor

A stable 60 FPS is enough for World of Tanks, but on a 144 Hz monitor turret movement and aiming are noticeably smoother. Choose the card to match the monitor: if the card delivers 180 FPS and the monitor only displays 60, you won't see the difference. Conversely, a 144 Hz monitor makes no sense with a weak card that can't feed it.

RAM

Wargaming now recommends 16 GB. It is worth fitting it as two modules (2 × 8 GB or 2 × 16 GB) so the memory runs in dual-channel mode. A single module means lower bandwidth and worse minimum FPS.

SSD and the HD client

The game takes up around 120 GB and grows with every major update. On an SSD the map loads quickly; on a conventional hard drive you may join the battle after everyone else. Wargaming offers a client with standard (SD) and high-definition (HD) textures. HD textures are larger and need a card with more video memory.

How to set up World of Tanks for higher FPS

  1. Start with a graphics quality preset one step lower than the game suggests, and add individual settings gradually.
  2. Shadows, effects quality (explosions, smoke) and grass in sniper mode take the most performance. Lower these first – grass in the sight also blocks your view.
  3. If FPS fluctuates, lower the 3D render resolution or turn on dynamic adjustment. The interface stays sharp; only the scene resolution drops.
  4. With a FreeSync or G-Sync monitor, turn off vertical sync and cap the frame rate just below the monitor's refresh rate.
  5. Close applications you don't need before a battle and update your graphics card driver.
  6. Keep both the game and the system on an SSD and leave at least 15–20% of it free.

You can display FPS during the game directly in the client or with monitoring tools, which we describe in our article utilities for gaming PCs.

Build it yourself or buy ready-made

If you build it yourself, choose in this order: processor, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, SSD, case and power supply. The components must be balanced in performance – a weak processor cannot fully load the graphics card. Also watch the dimensions: the length of a gaming card must fit the case and the card must not obstruct airflow.

Powerful components generate a lot of heat, so plan for good airflow through the case. For World of Tanks, however, water cooling is not needed; a quality air cooler on the processor is more than enough.

Frequently asked questions

Will World of Tanks run on Windows 7?
Since update 2.3.1, Wargaming officially supports only 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. The game may start on an older system, but the developer no longer guarantees stability or performance.
Is 8 GB of RAM enough for World of Tanks?
8 GB is the official minimum. Wargaming now recommends 16 GB, and if Discord or a browser runs alongside the game, 16 GB in two modules is a sensible baseline.
Is World of Tanks more demanding on the CPU or the graphics card?
In large battles mainly on the CPU. With a weak CPU the FPS drops even with a powerful graphics card, so for tanks it pays to invest in the processor.
How much disk space does World of Tanks need?
According to Wargaming and Steam, roughly 120 GB, and the game grows with updates. Install it on an SSD – on a traditional hard drive battles load much more slowly.
What monitor is good for World of Tanks?
60 FPS is playable, but a 144 Hz monitor makes aiming and turret rotation smoother. Choose a graphics card that can feed the monitor enough frames.
