Dogecoin (DOGE) is a cryptocurrency from 2013 that issues a fixed 10,000 new coins per block and finds a block roughly every minute. It is mined with Scrypt ASIC miners – simultaneously with Litecoin thanks to so-called merged mining. The same hashrate therefore earns both coins at once, and today Dogecoin makes up roughly 85% of a Scrypt miner's total earnings.

Summary

  • Dogecoin has no fixed supply cap: roughly 5.26 billion DOGE are added each year (10,000 DOGE × 1,440 blocks a day × 365 days).
  • The algorithm is Scrypt, the same as Litecoin. Since September 2014 the two networks have been mined together (merged mining) – the hashrate is not split, the rewards add up.
  • Today 1 GH/s earns approximately 11 Kč from Dogecoin and a further 1,86 Kč from Litecoin per day.
  • Dogecoin has no halving, so its share of earnings will not change in 2027 – unlike Litecoin.

What Dogecoin is and why it has no coin limit

Dogecoin was created in December 2013 as a joke coin with a Shiba Inu dog in its logo. Technically it is based on Litecoin, and therefore indirectly on Bitcoin: it uses the same transaction model and proof-of-work mining.

The key difference is issuance. Bitcoin and Litecoin have a fixed cap and halve the block reward every four years. Since 2015 Dogecoin has issued the same reward of 10,000 DOGE per block, with no end. About 5.26 billion new coins are created each year. Because the total supply keeps growing, the percentage inflation falls slightly every year.

For miners this means one advantage: there is no halving ahead for Dogecoin. Earnings change only with the exchange rate and network difficulty, not in sudden jumps according to the calendar.

How Dogecoin is mined

Parameter Dogecoin (DOGE)
Algorithm Scrypt
Block time approx. 1 minute
Block reward 10,000 DOGE (fixed, no halving)
New coins per day approx. 14.4 million DOGE
Mining Scrypt ASIC miners, together with Litecoin (merged mining)
Price as of 18 Oct 2026 1,71 Kč per 1 DOGE

Mining Dogecoin on graphics cards or CPUs does not pay off today – the network is entirely in the hands of ASIC miners. According to our data, the Dogecoin network has around 2.3 PH/s and Litecoin around 2.5 PH/s (as of 18 Oct 2026). The figures are so close precisely because the same machines work on both networks.

Merged mining with Litecoin: what it is and why it matters

In 2014 Dogecoin had a problem: rewards were falling, miners were leaving and the network was at risk of a majority-hashrate attack. The solution was the introduction of AuxPoW (auxiliary proof of work). Since September 2014 the Dogecoin network has accepted the work a miner does for Litecoin as valid proof for its own blocks as well.

In practice it works like this:

  1. The miner connects to a pool that supports merged mining, usually via a Litecoin connection.
  2. The pool builds jobs so that every hash found can be valid for both Litecoin and Dogecoin.
  3. The hashrate is not split in half – the full 100% works for both networks at the same time.
  4. The pool credits rewards from both coins, either separately in LTC and DOGE or converted into a single coin.

Some pools also add other smaller Scrypt coins that support merged mining (e.g. Bellscoin, Pepecoin, Junkcoin). Their contribution is small compared with DOGE and LTC, though.

How much Dogecoin mining earns today

We recalculate earnings every hour based on the difficulty of both networks and the exchange rate. For 1 GH/s it is currently 11 Kč from Dogecoin and 1,86 Kč from Litecoin, roughly CZK 12.46 a day in total (as of 18 Oct 2026). In coins that is about 6.2 DOGE and 0.0015 LTC a day for each GH/s.

Miner Hashrate DOGE share / day LTC share / day Gross total / day Consumption / day
Antminer L9 16 GH/s approx. CZK 170 approx. CZK 30 approx. CZK 199 80.6 kWh
ElphaPex DG1+ 14 GH/s approx. CZK 148 approx. CZK 26 approx. CZK 175 94.1 kWh
ElphaPex DG Home 1 2.1 GH/s approx. CZK 22 approx. CZK 4 approx. CZK 26 15.1 kWh

The calculation applies at the difficulty and exchange rate as of 18 Oct 2026 and does not include the pool fee. Subtract electricity from the gross earnings: on our hosting the cheapest location starts at 1,13 Kč/kWh, so an Antminer L9 uses roughly CZK 91 of electricity a day there. We recalculate the figures for all machines every hour in our ASIC miner profitability overview.

Which miner to use for Dogecoin

Every Scrypt miner mines Dogecoin and Litecoin at the same time, so choosing a machine is the same as for Litecoin. What matters most is efficiency in J/MH and where the machine will run:

  • Hosting or workshop: Antminer L9 (16 GH/s, 0.21 J/MH), the water-cooled L9 Hyd 2U (27 GH/s) or the cheaper ElphaPex DG1+. They run at around 75 dB and are not suitable for a flat.
  • Home: ElphaPex DG Home 1, Fluminer L2 or VolcMiner D1 Mini. They are quiet (40–50 dB) and plug into a normal socket, but at household electricity prices they usually don't earn more than they consume.

You will find a detailed comparison of all models with calculations in our article Litecoin (LTC): halving and mining. Our range of machines is in the collection Litecoin and Dogecoin miners.

Pools and wallets for Dogecoin

Dogecoin is hardly ever mined on its own – a merged-mining pool always pays off. Pools differ mainly in how they pay out DOGE:

  • Payout in both coins: the pool sends LTC and DOGE separately, so you need two addresses. ViaBTC does this, for example, for PPS+ and PPLNS payouts.
  • Payout in LTC only: the pool keeps the DOGE and raises its Litecoin rate instead. This model is used by litecoinpool.org, which once started at 125% PPS.

For DOGE, the official Dogecoin Core wallet or a hardware wallet with Dogecoin support is enough. Dogecoin addresses start with the letter D. Before entering the wallet in a pool, send a small test amount to it.

Risks of mining Dogecoin

  • Exchange rate: Dogecoin is highly sensitive to market sentiment and statements by well-known personalities. Moves of tens of per cent in a week are not unusual.
  • No cap: constant issuance means permanent selling pressure – miners sell new coins every day.
  • Dependence on Litecoin: network security relies on merged mining. The Litecoin halving in 2027 will halve LTC earnings, which may push some miners with expensive electricity out of the game.
  • Minimum payouts: small home miners take longer to reach a pool's payout threshold. Check the terms in advance.

What next

  • Litecoin (LTC) – the other half of merged mining, the 2027 halving and a comparison of all Scrypt miners with calculations.
  • Quiet miner for DOGE and LTC – if you want to mine at home or in the office.
  • ASIC miner hosting – where noisy machines like the L9 run at industrial electricity prices.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mine only Dogecoin without Litecoin?
Technically yes, but it makes no sense. A merged-mining pool credits you with both DOGE and LTC for the same hashrate, so mining DOGE alone would cost you part of the revenue.
Does Dogecoin have a halving?
No. Since 2015 the reward has been fixed at 10,000 DOGE per block. Dogecoin revenue therefore changes only with the exchange rate and network difficulty.
Do I need two wallets for payouts?
It depends on the pool. Some send LTC and DOGE separately and need both addresses; others convert DOGE and pay out only in LTC.
Can Dogecoin be mined on a graphics card?
Not with any sensible result. The network is dominated by Scrypt ASICs and a graphics card would not even earn its electricity.
How much Dogecoin does an Antminer L9 mine per day?
At the difficulty as of 18 Oct 2026, roughly 99 DOGE a day (about 6.2 DOGE per 1 GH/s) plus a smaller amount in Litecoin. The figure changes with network difficulty.
