The Antminer S23 is a series of Bitcoin miners from Bitmain with an efficiency of 8.9–12 J/TH, i.e. 20 to 40% more economical than the S21 Pro (15 J/TH). The most widespread model is the water-cooled S23 Hyd (580 TH/s, 9.5 J/TH), which Bitmain unveiled in May 2025 and has been shipping since early 2026. The S23 series is not designed for home mining – these are data-centre machines.

Summary

  • The S23 series includes an air-cooled version (318 TH/s, 11 J/TH), an immersion version (442 TH/s) and several water-cooled versions from 563 to 1,160 TH/s.
  • The most efficient is the S23 XP Hyd at 8.9 J/TH, which Bitmain launched in August 2026 with deliveries from November 2026.
  • As of 18 Oct 2026, Bitmain has not announced an “S23 Pro” model.
  • At today's difficulty and exchange rate, the S23 Hyd 563 TH/s mines roughly CZK 473 a day and pays off up to an electricity price of about CZK 3.7/kWh.
  • Hydro versions need a water circuit and a three-phase connection, which is why they are most often run in hosting.

Which models the Antminer S23 series includes

Bitmain releases the S23 in several versions depending on cooling. The specifications in the table are the manufacturer's (nominal) values; units on sale may differ by performance class – for example, our S23 Hyd delivers 563 TH/s at 5,349 W, i.e. the same 9.5 J/TH efficiency as the base version.

Model Cooling Hashrate Power Efficiency Launch
Antminer S23 air (4 fans, 75 dB) 318 TH/s 3,498 W 11 J/TH January 2026
Antminer S23 Imm immersion (submerged in liquid) 442 TH/s 5,304 W 12 J/TH January 2026
Antminer S23 Hyd water 580 TH/s 5,510 W 9.5 J/TH unveiled 28 May 2025, deliveries from Q1 2026
Antminer S23 Hyd 3U water, rack-mounted 1,160 TH/s 11,020 W 9.5 J/TH January 2026
Antminer S23e Hyd 2U (U2H) water, rack-mounted 865 TH/s 8,650 W 10 J/TH 2026
Antminer S23 XP Hyd water 600 TH/s 5,340 W 8.9 J/TH on sale from 28 Aug 2026, deliveries from 11/2026

Earlier mentions of the immersion version gave two modes: 368 TH/s at 11 J/TH and a more powerful 442 TH/s at 12 J/TH. Current overviews mainly list the 442 TH/s version.

What's new in the S23 compared with the S21

The main change is efficiency. Per 1 TH/s, the S23 Hyd uses 37% less energy than the S21 Pro (15 J/TH) and 46% less than the original S21 (17.5 J/TH). The air-cooled S23 is 27% more economical than the S21 Pro.

In practice this means the S23 still makes money where older machines are already losing it. You can calculate the electricity price up to which a machine pays off as earnings per 1 TH/s ÷ (efficiency × 0.024). At today's 0,84 Kč per 1 TH/s a day, this gives:

Machine Efficiency Pays off up to an electricity price of
Antminer S21 17.5 J/TH CZK 2.0/kWh
Antminer S21 Pro 15 J/TH CZK 2.3/kWh
Antminer S21 XP Hyd 12 J/TH CZK 2.9/kWh
Antminer S23 11 J/TH CZK 3.2/kWh
Antminer S23 Hyd 9.5 J/TH CZK 3.7/kWh
Antminer S23 XP Hyd 8.9 J/TH CZK 3.9/kWh

The values apply at today's difficulty and exchange rate, as of 18 Oct 2026. We explain how J/TH is calculated and why it matters more to miners than hashrate alone in our article on ASIC power consumption and efficiency.

How much the Antminer S23 Hyd 563 TH/s earns

The calculation is straightforward: 563 TH/s × 0,84 Kč ≈ CZK 473 gross per day at today's difficulty and exchange rate, as of 18 Oct 2026. The machine uses 5.349 kW × 24 h = 128.4 kWh a day.

  • In hosting at 1,13 Kč/kWh, electricity costs about CZK 145 a day, leaving roughly CZK 328.
  • At CZK 3/kWh, electricity would cost CZK 385, leaving around CZK 88.
  • Above CZK 3.7/kWh the machine loses money at today's figures.

For comparison: the air-cooled S21 Pro+ 245 TH/s mines about CZK 206 today and only pays off up to CZK 2.3/kWh. You will find current earnings and payback for all machines in our live profitability table.

What the water-cooled S23 Hyd needs

Hydro versions have no fans. Heat from the chips is carried away by a liquid that a pump drives to a dry cooler or heat exchanger. As a result they run at around 50 dB instead of 75 dB for air-cooled machines, and the heat can be reused, for example for space heating or hot water.

  • Power: three-phase 380–415 V. A normal 230 V socket is not enough.
  • Water circuit: a flow rate of 8–10 l/min is specified for the S23 Hyd 580 TH/s. The cooler must dissipate practically the entire power draw, i.e. roughly 5.5 kW of heat.
  • Coolant: high quality, designed for closed circuits. Tap water will clog the circuit over time.
  • Network: Ethernet connection.

We discuss the differences between air, water and immersion in detail in our article where air cooling reaches its limits.

Who the S23 series is for

  • S23 Hyd and S23 XP Hyd – for operations with water infrastructure and for those who place the machine in ASIC miner hosting. Lowest consumption per TH/s, so the longest profitability.
  • S23 Hyd 3U and S23e Hyd 2U – rack-mounted machines for large data centres with high power density per rack.
  • S23 (air) – for farms without a water circuit that want the best available efficiency with air cooling. Its 75 dB noise level rules it out for living spaces.
  • S23 Imm – for operations with immersion tanks.

If you currently run an S21 with cheap electricity, you don't need to switch right away. What matters is how far your electricity price is from your machine's break-even point. For home mining, it is better to look at quiet miners for the home.

Frequently asked questions

When did the Antminer S23 start shipping?
Bitmain unveiled the S23 Hyd on 28 May 2025 and announced first deliveries for Q1 2026. The air-cooled, immersion and 3U versions are listed with a January 2026 release date; the S23 XP Hyd ships from November 2026.
Is there an Antminer S23 Pro?
As of 18 Oct 2026, Bitmain has not announced an S23 Pro. The most efficient model in the series is the S23 XP Hyd at 8.9 J/TH.
Can I run an S23 Hyd at home?
Practically no. It needs three-phase power at 380–415 V, a water loop with a pump and a dry cooler for about 5.5 kW of heat. That is why it usually runs in a data centre or in hosting.
Is it worth replacing an S21 with an S23?
It depends on your electricity price. At today's figures the S21 Pro pays off up to CZK 2.3/kWh and the S23 Hyd up to CZK 3.7/kWh. If you pay well below your S21's break-even, there is no rush to upgrade.
How loud is the Antminer S23?
The air-cooled S23 is rated at 75 dB. The water-cooled versions have no fans and run at around 50 dB, although the external cooler also makes noise.
