How much does electricity for mining cost in Czechia (2026): tariffs, circuit breaker and price per kWh

Author: Updated 12 min read

Cena elektřiny pro těžbu v Česku

At home in Czechia, 1 kWh currently costs about 6.4 Kč in total including VAT on the standard D02d tariff. On the D57d tariff for electric heating it is 4.2–5.3 Kč. The price includes the electricity itself, distribution, system services, tax and VAT; circuit breaker charges are extra (ČEZ and PRE price lists, as of 4 Nov 2026). At these prices large Bitcoin miners do not make money at home: as of 4 Nov 2026 the Antminer S21 XP is only in profit with electricity below 2.22 Kč/kWh.

Summary

  • The single-rate D02d tariff costs around 6.4 Kč/kWh including VAT at both ČEZ and PRE. The cheapest is the 20-hour low tariff of D45d, D56d and D57d – around 4.2–4.7 Kč/kWh.
  • You only get the low tariff for electric heating, storage heating or an electric car. A miner is not listed among the appliances that qualify.
  • A 3×25 A circuit breaker can continuously handle at most three large ASICs (one per phase) – leaving the household little headroom.
  • Our other articles use an indicative 4.5 Kč/kWh. At this price the Antminer S21 XP loses about 199 Kč a day, the Antminer L9 207 Kč and the Canaan Avalon Q 116 Kč (as of 4 Nov 2026).
  • Since 1 Jan 2026 households no longer pay the POZE levy. This made a kilowatt-hour 0.60 Kč cheaper including VAT.

What makes up the price of 1 kWh in 2026?

A kilowatt-hour consists of four parts: the supplier's commercial price, regulated distribution, system services and tax – with 21% VAT added on top of everything. The commercial price is set by the supplier. Distribution is set by the Energy Regulatory Office (ERÚ) in price decision No. 14/2025, separately for each distribution area and tariff.

Example for the D02d tariff in the ČEZ Distribuce area, product ČEZ Elektřina Bez starostí na 3 roky (commercial prices from 25 Aug 2026):

Price component Kč/MWh excl. VAT Kč/MWh incl. VAT
Commercial price (electricity) 3,000.00 3,630.00
Distribution D02d (ERÚ, ČEZ Distribuce area) 2,078.58 2,515.08
System services 164.24 198.73
Electricity tax 28.30 34.24
POZE (paid by the state since 1 Jan 2026) 0 0
Total per 1 MWh 5,271.12 6,378.06

On top of the price per kWh you pay the supplier a fixed monthly fee (163.35 Kč for this product), a circuit breaker charge and 15.57 Kč for the operation of non-grid infrastructure. Households no longer pay the levy for supported energy sources (POZE) from January 2026. According to the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), this amounts to 599 Kč/MWh including VAT.

For a miner, the price per kWh is what matters. The Antminer S21 XP uses about 2,620 kWh a month – at 6.38 Kč/kWh that is roughly 16,700 Kč. The fixed charges are small by comparison.

How much does a kWh cost on the individual distribution tariffs?

The cheapest kilowatt-hour is on the 20-hour tariffs D45d, D56d and D57d: 4.16 Kč at ČEZ and 4.68 Kč at PRE in the low tariff. The overview shows the total price including VAT for two large suppliers. The “Average for a miner” column is the weighted average when the machine runs 24 hours a day.

ČEZ: Elektřina Bez starostí na 3 roky, ČEZ Distribuce area, commercial prices from 25 Aug 2026. PRE: PRE PROUD neFIX, PREdistribuce area, price list from 1 Jan 2026. PRE prices are the sum of the components in the PRE price list: electricity, distribution, system services and tax. Other products and suppliers (e.g. E.ON, innogy) have a different commercial price. Distribution, system services and tax are, however, the same for everyone in a given area.

Can I get the low tariff because of a miner?

No: eligibility for a dual-rate tariff comes from installed heating, storage or an electric car, not from a miner. According to the ERÚ price decision, a connection point on D45d, for example, must have direct electric heaters with an output of at least 40% of the main circuit breaker rating. During the high tariff the heating must be technically blocked. A miner is not mentioned in the tariff conditions – neither by ERÚ (tariffs D25d to D45d) nor in the ČEZ overview (D56d, D57d).

If you have a dual-rate tariff because of heating, the low tariff applies to electricity metered during its hours. The distributor controls the low-tariff hours via ripple control (HDO) and can change them. According to the Energožrouti website, breaching the conditions – for example unblocked heating – can lead to loss of the tariff and a contractual penalty. According to ERÚ, the D45d tariff is now only granted to connection points intended for housing.

How many watts can a circuit breaker handle and how many miners is that?

One phase with a 16 A circuit breaker can handle 3,680 W, but for continuous load count on only 80%, i.e. about 2,940 W. The calculation is simple: current × 230 V × number of phases. A miner runs non-stop, so do not underestimate the 20% margin. A large ASIC is also connected to a single phase, so what matters is the capacity per phase, not the total.

Antminer S21 XP 270 TH/s – Bitcoin ASIC miner with 3,645 W power draw
The Antminer S21 XP draws 3,645 W – one phase with a 16 A circuit breaker cannot carry it continuously.
Main circuit breaker Maximum (W) Continuous 80% (W) Per phase continuous (W) Antminer S21 XP 3,645 W (pcs) Antminer L9 3,360 W (pcs) Canaan Avalon Q 1,674 W (pcs)
1×16 A 3,680 2,944 2,944 0 0 1
3×16 A 11,040 8,832 2,944 0 0 3
3×25 A 17,250 13,800 4,600 3 3 6
3×32 A 22,080 17,664 5,888 3 3 9

The numbers are a theoretical maximum without any other appliances. Three Antminer S21 XP units on a 3×25 A circuit breaker draw 10,935 W, leaving the household only about 950 W per phase. The main circuit breaker is only the upper limit – each machine also needs its own circuit with suitable protection and cable cross-section. We describe how to prepare the socket and circuit in the article How to prepare a place for an ASIC miner at home. You apply to the distributor for a larger main circuit breaker, and the installation should be assessed by an electrician.

How much does a larger circuit breaker cost per month?

The circuit breaker charge rises with its size: at ČEZ Distribuce on the D02d tariff, 3×25 A costs 309.76 Kč a month and 3×32 A 395.67 Kč. Prices are set by ERÚ separately for each distribution area and differ at PREdistribuce and EG.D. On the 20-hour tariffs the circuit breaker charge is roughly double.

3×25 A 309.76 325.49 671.55
3×32 A 395.67 416.24 859.10

ČEZ Distribuce distribution area, ERÚ prices from 1 Jan 2026 taken from the ČEZ price list. Moving from 3×25 A to 3×32 A on the D02d tariff therefore costs an extra 85.91 Kč a month – less than a miner uses in electricity in a day.

How much does a miner earn at different electricity prices?

At today's revenue, the Antminer S21 XP only makes money up to 2.22 Kč/kWh, the Antminer L9 up to 1.93 Kč and the Canaan Avalon Q up to 1.61 Kč. The table applies as of 4 Nov 2026 (revenue recalculated at 8:59) and changes with the exchange rate and network difficulty. Our other articles use an indicative 4.5 Kč/kWh. This corresponds to the 20-hour tariffs D45d–D57d (average for a miner 4.31–4.79 Kč/kWh); on the standard D02d count on 6.4 Kč/kWh. We sell all three machines. We chose a large Bitcoin machine, a large machine for Litecoin and Dogecoin and a small home miner.

Canaan Avalon Q 90 TH/s – home Bitcoin miner
Canaan Avalon Q 90 TH/s – a home miner drawing 1,674 W, one of the three machines in the break-even table.
Machine Hashrate / power draw Gross revenue (Kč/day) At 2 Kč/kWh (Kč/day) At 3 Kč/kWh (Kč/day) At 4.5 Kč/kWh (Kč/day) At 6 Kč/kWh (Kč/day) Our hosting 1.14 Kč/kWh (Kč/day)
Antminer S21 XP 270 TH/s 270 TH/s / 3,645 W 194 +19 −68 −199 −331 +95
Antminer L9 16 GH/s 16 GH/s / 3,360 W 156 −5 −86 −207 −328 +64
Canaan Avalon Q 90 TH/s 90 TH/s / 1,674 W 65 −16 −56 −116 −176 – (home machine)

Revenue: Bitcoin 0,72 Kč per 1 TH/s per day, Scrypt 9.74 Kč per 1 GH/s per day in Litecoin and Dogecoin (as of 4 Nov 2026, excluding bonus coins and pool fees). The calculation does not include fixed monthly charges. The price of our hosting from 1,14 Kč/kWh includes machine management; VAT is not added because the hosting is operated by a US company. For a household it is therefore the final price per kWh and can be compared with the prices including VAT in the tables above. VAT payers should check the tax implications with an adviser.

Drawbacks of the individual machines: the Antminer S21 XP and Antminer L9 run at around 75 dB and do not belong in a flat. The Canaan Avalon Q runs at 45–65 dB depending on the mode, but has worse efficiency: 18.6 J/TH versus 13.5 J/TH for the Antminer S21 XP. That is why its break-even point is lower too. None of these calculations is a promise of earnings – daily revenue can change significantly within weeks.

Mining at home makes sense mainly when the miner's heat replaces electric heating, or when it runs on surplus solar power. We cover both in the articles Heating with an ASIC miner and Mining with surplus solar power.

What about businesses and spot contracts?

Businesses on low voltage are not supplied on D tariffs but on C-series tariffs, which ERÚ sets in the same price decision No. 14/2025. D tariffs are intended for households. Price lists show prices both including 21% VAT and excluding VAT. We describe how VAT and taxes apply to mining in the article Cryptocurrency mining in Czechia: taxes, VAT, trade licence and laws. Discuss your specific situation with a tax adviser.

With a spot contract only the commercial part of the price changes – according to the day-ahead market of the market operator OTE, which has traded in quarter-hour intervals since 1 Oct 2025. Distribution, system services and tax remain regulated, just as with a fixed price. The miner can be switched off during expensive quarter-hours, but the price can also spike sharply. We explain how negative prices work in the article What to do with surplus solar power.

Some suppliers also offer time-of-use tariffs. For example, ČEZ Dynamický tarif (commercial prices from 1 Jun 2026) requires interval metering. On working days from April to September its commercial price ranges from 1,950 to 4,875 Kč/MWh including VAT depending on the hour.

How to find out your real price per kWh?

  1. Find the distribution tariff (e.g. D02d) and the main circuit breaker rating on your invoice or contract.
  2. Find out which distribution area you are in: ČEZ Distribuce, EG.D or PREdistribuce.
  3. In your product's price list, add up the price per MWh: commercial price, distribution, system services and tax. Some price lists, such as ČEZ's, show the total price including VAT directly.
  4. With a dual-rate tariff, calculate the weighted average: the miner also runs during high-tariff hours.
  5. Divide the result by 1,000 and compare it with the machine's break-even price in the ASIC miner profitability overview.

How to calculate daily consumption from power draw and what J/TH means is explained in the article ASIC miner power consumption and J/TH.
