Kaspa wallet: how to set one up and which to choose

You can set up a Kaspa wallet in 2–5 minutes for free: on a computer in Kaspa NG, on a phone in the Kaspium app, in a browser via the KasWare extension. The most important thing is to write down the 12 or 24 words of the recovery phrase on paper. Note: the old web wallet wallet.kaspanet.io and the KDX app are outdated – don't create new wallets in them.
Summary
- As of 18 Oct 2026, the official Kaspa website (kaspa.org) lists 11 wallets: the software wallets Kaspa NG, Kaspium, KasWare, Kastle, KaspaCom and CLI, and the hardware wallets Tangem, Ledger, OneKey and SafePal.
- Kaspa NG or Kaspium is enough to start with and for mining. For larger amounts, use a hardware wallet.
- A Kaspa address starts with
kaspa:– this is what you enter in the pool as the payout destination. - If you have coins in the old wallet.kaspanet.io or KDX wallet, move them to a new one. Their recovery phrases may not work in other wallets.
- After the Toccata hard fork (30 Jun 2026), keep your wallet updated – the minimum fee has changed.
Which Kaspa wallet to choose
All the wallets in the table are non-custodial: only you hold the keys, and nobody else has access to the coins. The selection is based on the list on the official kaspa.org website (HODL → Wallets section).
| Wallet | Type | Platforms | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kaspa NG | desktop, optionally with your own node | Windows, macOS, Linux | miners and advanced users, open source |
| Kaspa NG Web | web (kaspa-ng.org) | browser on PC and mobile | beginners, no installation |
| Kaspium | mobile | iOS, Android | everyday sending and receiving from a phone, open source |
| KasWare | browser extension | Chrome, Android | working with tokens and apps on the Kaspa network |
| Kastle | mobile + extension | iOS, Android, browser | KRC-20 tokens, NFTs, in-app swaps |
| Kaspa CLI | command line | Windows, macOS, Linux | developers and server administrators |
| Tangem | hardware card | iOS, Android | savings without a recovery phrase |
| Ledger, OneKey, SafePal | hardware devices | with the manufacturer's app | long-term storage of larger amounts |
For miners we recommend a simple rule: have pool payouts go to Kaspa NG or Kaspium and move the accumulated coins to a hardware wallet from time to time. We explain what Kaspa is and how it is mined in our article Kaspa (KAS).
What you will need
- A computer with an up-to-date browser, or a phone with iOS or Android.
- Paper and a pen for the recovery phrase (12 or 24 words). Not a screenshot, not notes in the cloud.
- A strong wallet password – it protects the wallet file on the device but does not replace the phrase.
- 5 quiet minutes so that nothing gets mixed up when copying the words.
How to set up a wallet in Kaspa NG
Kaspa NG exists as a web version (kaspa-ng.org) and as a desktop app downloadable from the aspectron/kaspa-ng project on GitHub. The procedure is the same in both cases:
- Open kaspa-ng.org or launch the downloaded app. Check the address – fraudulent websites use similar names.
- Choose to create a new wallet.
- Enter a wallet name. If the wizard offers a choice of recovery phrase length, go for 24 words.
- Set a wallet password. Without it you cannot open the wallet on this device.
- Write down all the words of the phrase in the correct order on paper. The wizard will then ask you to confirm them.
- When finished, you will see your account and a receiving address in the form
kaspa:q…. Use it to receive coins and for pool payouts.
How to set up a wallet on your phone (Kaspium)
- Install Kaspium from the App Store or Google Play. Make sure it is the right app by following the link on kaspa.org.
- Choose to create a new wallet.
- Write down the displayed recovery phrase on paper and confirm it.
- Complete the app's security setup according to the wizard.
- On the main screen, tap Receive – your
kaspa:address and a QR code will be displayed.
Before sending a larger amount to the new wallet, send yourself a small test payment first. The official Kaspa website recommends the same.
How to use the wallet for mining
The pool sends the mined coins directly to your address. In the miner, you enter it in the user field (Worker/User), usually in the form kaspa:qvase_adresa.nazev_stroje with the password x. Some pools also accept the address without the kaspa: prefix; follow the pool's instructions.
Pools only pay out once a minimum balance is reached. For example, at Kryptex Pool it is 10 KAS as of 18 Oct 2026, which at today's price of 0,75 Kč per KAS is about CZK 7.50. We describe how minimum payouts work in our article Minimum balance requirements for withdrawal. You will find the full step-by-step procedure for setting up the pool in the miner in our guide Setting up the IceRiver KS0–KS3.
Do you have coins in the old wallet.kaspanet.io or KDX wallet?
Older guides (including the previous version of this article) recommended the wallet.kaspanet.io web wallet with 12 words. Both it and the KDX desktop wallet use non-standard address derivation. The Kaspa SDK documentation marks them as outdated and warns that only a few apps support importing them.
- Set up a new wallet following the steps above (Kaspa NG, Kaspium or a hardware wallet).
- If you can still open the old wallet, first send a small amount from it to the new address.
- Once the payment arrives, transfer the rest.
- If the old wallet won't open, don't enter the phrase on random websites. Check the phrase compatibility table on wiki.kaspa.org and only use a wallet that explicitly supports importing old phrases.
- Don't forget to change the payout address in all the pools where you mine.
How to secure your wallet
- The phrase is the wallet. Whoever knows your 12 or 24 words has your coins. Nobody from wallet, pool or exchange support will ever ask you for it.
- Only download from the links on kaspa.org. Fake wallets in app stores and search ads are a common scam. We show how it works in our article Crypto scam: fake software wallet.
- Keep it updated. The Toccata hard fork raised the minimum fee from 1 to 100 sompi per gram of transaction. Older software with a hard-coded fee may fail to send the transaction.
- Larger amounts on hardware. Tangem, Ledger, OneKey or SafePal keep the keys off your computer and phone.
Common problems and solutions
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| After restoring the phrase in another wallet, the balance is zero | The phrase probably comes from an old wallet (wallet.kaspanet.io, KDX) with a different address derivation. Check the compatibility table on wiki.kaspa.org. |
| A pool payout hasn't arrived | Check that you have reached the minimum payout and that the address in the pool is complete and has no spaces. You will find the payout status on the pool's website by address. |
| A transaction won't send | Update the wallet to a version that supports Toccata and check that you have KAS left for the fee. |
| The address keeps changing in the wallet | This is normal – wallets generate new receiving addresses. They all belong to the same account and old addresses keep working. |
| Forgotten wallet password | Restore the wallet from the recovery phrase and set a new password. Without the phrase, recovery is not possible. |
