ASIC miner hosting: at home, in the Czech Republic or abroad? Costs and risks compared

Author: Updated 14 min read

Hosting ASIC minerů doma, v Česku a v zahraničí

At home in the Czech Republic, with electricity at around 4.5 Kč/kWh, a large Bitcoin ASIC miner usually does not pay off – as of 4 Nov 2026 an Antminer S21 XP would lose about 199 Kč a day. We use 4.5 Kč/kWh as a rough figure (typically the D57d tariff; on the standard D02d tariff it is around 6.4 Kč/kWh, see How much electricity for mining costs). Mining at home makes sense when the miner's heat replaces your heating, when it runs on surplus solar power, or when your electricity costs less than roughly 2.2 Kč/kWh. Hosting in the Czech Republic makes sense if you want the machine close by and the price including management comes in below that threshold. Hosting abroad offers the lowest price per kWh (with us from 1,14 Kč), but you pay for it with distance and poorer access to the machine.

A note up front: we offer ASIC miner hosting and we sell miners. The hosting itself is operated by a US company. This comparison is therefore written from our perspective. We do not name specific competitors or their prices; instead we give you questions you can use to compare any offer.

Summary

  • Five things decide: the price per kWh, noise and heat, access to service, the risk of outages and transporting the machine.
  • The Antminer S21 XP (270 TH/s, 3,645 W) currently mines about 194 Kč a day gross. It only makes money with electricity below 2.22 Kč/kWh.
  • At home at 4.5 Kč/kWh: about −199 Kč a day. At our cheapest available location, Nigeria #2: about +95 Kč a day; in Finland about +71 Kč.
  • A cheaper location may have more outages. Nigeria #2 had 97.12% uptime, Norway – Arctic 99.85%.
  • With any hosting provider, check the contract, repairs, outages, pool, termination and return of the machine before you sign.

What decides where to run a miner?

The main factor is the electricity price: the Antminer S21 XP uses 87.5 kWh a day, so every koruna per kWh makes a difference of 87 Kč a day. You can work out how much electricity a machine uses from its efficiency in J/TH. Five more factors decide whether a low price per kWh really ends up in your pocket:

  • Price per kWh including management – not just the energy itself, but everything you pay for operation.
  • Noise and heat – a classic air-cooled ASIC runs at around 75 dB and turns its entire power draw into heat.
  • Access to service – who repairs the machine, how quickly and who pays for the repair.
  • Risk of outages – every hour without power or internet is an hour without earnings.
  • Transport – getting the machine there and possibly back, including insurance and customs duty.

How much does a kWh cost at home, with Czech hosting and abroad?

The difference is up to fourfold: at home we roughly assume 4.5 Kč/kWh, while our cheapest available location costs 1.14 Kč/kWh. The table shows the situation as of 4 Nov 2026. The kWh prices are taken from our hosting page and change with the koruna exchange rate.

* We do not offer hosting in the Czech Republic and we do not quote other operators' prices. For a rough idea: in the first half of 2026, 21.2 TWh of electricity worth more than 53 billion Kč was traded on OTE's short-term markets. From this we roughly derived about 2.5 Kč/kWh for the energy alone. This is not a price published by OTE, and it does not include distribution, taxes or the cost of running a hosting facility.

** Applies to a machine bought from us with the Hosted option. A miner bought elsewhere is first checked by us in Prague and then travels to the data centre in a batch of at least 25 ASICs. Hosting is more expensive for such a machine; the price is available on request.

VAT is not added to these prices, because the hosting is operated by a US company. They include management of the miner. Uptime is the share of time the location was running, according to the overview on our hosting page. The Nigeria #1, Dubai, Norway – Alta and Paraguay locations are currently full. We do not currently recommend Ethiopia on the hosting page. For locations other than “USA – no service fees”, ask about any service fees before ordering.

How much does an Antminer S21 XP earn at home and in hosting?

The Antminer S21 XP 270 TH/s currently mines about 194 Kč a day gross, and its net profit differs by 294 Kč a day depending on location. Today 1 TH/s on Bitcoin earns 0,72 Kč a day (recalculated 4. 11. 8:59). The machine has a power draw of 3,645 W and an efficiency of 13.5 J/TH. As of 4 Nov 2026 the figures are:

Where the Antminer S21 XP runs Electricity (Kč/kWh) Electricity cost (Kč/day) Profit after electricity (Kč/day) Machine price (Kč) Payback today
At home in the Czech Republic 4.5 394 −199 84,899 incl. VAT never pays back
Nigeria #2 (cheapest available) 1.14 99 +95 68,074 (discounted machine price) about 24 months
Norway – Arctic 1.39 121 +73 68,074 (discounted machine price) about 31 months
Finland 1.41 123 +71 68,074 (discounted machine price) about 31 months
USA – no service fees 1.73 151 +43 68,074 (discounted machine price) about 52 months

The Hosted price is a discounted machine price; hosting is paid separately. The calculation excludes pool fees and outages. Earnings change with the BTC price and network difficulty, so treat the payback as today's estimate, not a promise. If earnings fall, payback gets longer – we model a falling-earnings scenario in our article How much it costs to run an ASIC miner for 24 months.

The break-even point of the Antminer S21 XP is currently 2.22 Kč/kWh. At a higher electricity price the machine loses money wherever it runs. So when comparing hosting, do not look only at the machine price but above all at the price per kWh.

The impact of outages is smaller than it might seem. 97.12% uptime in Nigeria #2 means about 21 hours without mining a month and a loss of around 6 Kč a day. Even so, the S21 XP earns more there than in Finland with 99.21% uptime. With a 7-year electricity prepayment, the price in Nigeria #2 drops to 0.80 Kč/kWh. You do, however, pay for the electricity in advance; the terms are on our Prepaid electricity page.

When does mining at home make sense?

At home the Antminer S21 XP only makes money with electricity below 2.22 Kč/kWh, or when its heat replaces heating you would pay for anyway. Two further practical conditions are noise and wiring. The Antminer S21 XP runs at around 75 dB and draws about 15.8 A at 230 V, so it needs a dedicated circuit.

Antminer S21 XP in a PC Praha double soundproof box – when running at home you need to deal with both noise and heat removal.

The advantage of mining at home is full control: the machine is with you, you restart it yourself and nothing has to be shipped anywhere. The drawbacks are expensive electricity, noise and, in summer, heat that you have to vent.

We have covered this in detail elsewhere, so we will not repeat it here:

When does hosting in the Czech Republic make sense?

Czech hosting makes sense when it offers a price including management below your machine's break-even point – for the Antminer S21 XP below 2.22 Kč/kWh. Its advantages are practical. You can take the machine there by car, you can go and look at it, you usually sign the contract with a Czech company and service is close by.

The drawback is the price: the operator buys electricity on the Czech market. Based on the volume traded on OTE's short-term markets, the energy alone came to roughly 2.5 Kč/kWh in the first half of 2026 (our own calculation). For an offer below this threshold, ask what is included in the price and for how long it is fixed.

We do not offer hosting in the Czech Republic ourselves. If you have an offer from a Czech operator, compare it using the questions and calculation in this article.

When does hosting abroad make sense?

Hosting abroad makes sense when you want the lowest possible price per kWh: at our locations it costs 1.14–1.84 Kč/kWh including management. For that price you accept that you will not see the machine and cannot physically move it without the operator.

Locations differ in more than price. In our data, the Nordic locations have a cool climate and high uptime, cheaper locations may have more outages, and cooling is more demanding in hot countries. We describe specific sites in our articles on the Finland, Ethiopia and Dubai locations.

A machine bought from us with the Hosted option goes by insured shipment straight to the chosen location. We repair faults directly in the data centre, and a new miner bought from us has a 7-year warranty in our hosting. Drawbacks: the machine mines on our pool, so you do not choose the pool. The machine's journey back home is long, and you cannot visit the data centre in person.

What risks do you take with each option?

No option is risk-free: with all three, earnings may fall, the machine may break down or the power may go out. They differ in who deals with the risk and how quickly you find out about it.

Watch out for the difference between hosting and cloud mining. With hosting you own a specific machine and can see its performance. With cloud mining you only buy “hashrate” that you cannot verify – more in our article Cloud mining: why most offers are a scam.

What should you ask any hosting provider?

Before signing, get written answers to these 10 questions. They apply to Czech and foreign hosting alike, including ours:

  1. Contract: Which company am I signing with, where is it based and which law governs the contract?
  2. Price: How much does a kWh cost including all fees, and for how long is it fixed?
  3. One-off fees: Do I pay separately for installation, a service fee or customs duty?
  4. Repairs: Who pays for repairs during and after the warranty, how long do they take and will I get a replacement machine?
  5. Outages: What uptime has the location had in recent months, and do I pay for electricity when the machine is down?
  6. Access to the miner: Can I see the hashrate, temperatures and machine status online?
  7. Pool and payouts: Which pool does the machine mine on, can I change it, and where and how often are payouts made?
  8. Termination: What is the notice period and what happens to prepaid electricity?
  9. Moving the machine back: How much does it cost to return the machine home or move it to another location, and how long does it take?
  10. Insurance: Is the machine insured during transport and in the data centre?

How we answer them, according to our ASIC miner hosting page:

Question Our hosting
Price 1.14–1.84 Kč/kWh (no VAT is added) including management, depending on the location; pay as you go with no commitment, or a 1-, 3- or 7-year prepayment with a 4, 12 or 30% discount
Repairs directly in the data centre; a new miner bought from us has a 7-year warranty in our hosting
Outages we publish the uptime for every location
Access to the miner hashrate, mined coins and payouts in your client account at hosting.pcpraha.cz
Pool and payouts our pool; payout to your wallet manually, or automatically once a threshold is reached
Termination and return of the machine after the machine leaves hosting, the statutory 24-month warranty continues to apply; confirm the procedure and shipping price with us before ordering

How pool payouts and thresholds work in general is explained in the entry Pool payouts.

Who put this comparison together and where do the figures come from?

The comparison was put together by the PC Praha team, which sells miners and offers hosting at all the foreign locations mentioned. The kWh prices and uptime are taken from our hosting page. We calculate earnings from a rate that we recalculate every hour from Bitcoin network data (difficulty and reward from mempool.space, exchange rate from CoinGecko). The specifications and prices of the Antminer S21 XP are from our range as of 4 Nov 2026.

We use the home price of 4.5 Kč/kWh as a rough figure – your tariff may be higher or lower. We do not name competitors because we cannot verify their current prices.

This is not investment advice; mining earnings change with the exchange rate and network difficulty.

Frequently asked questions

Stroj nejdřív zkontrolujeme v Praze a do datacentra jede v dávce nejméně 25 ASIC.
